Abies oil
is obtained from the steam distillation of
needles and young twigs of Abies spectabilis. The plant
is lofty, black, stout tree, attaining 40 m in height.
Leaves are spirally arranged, variable in length,
persisting for 15-20 years, flat, and petiole very
short. Male cone sessile, solitary or clustered and
female cones are 10-15 cm 3.5-7 cm in size. It is found
at an altitude of 7,000-12,000 feet. The plant is
propagated mainly through seeds.

Use:
The oil is used as carminative, expectorant, stomachic,
tonic, astringent, rubifacient and stimulant. It is also
used in arthritis, rheumatism , asthma, bronchitis and
sinusitis. In perfumery it is used as fragrance
component in deodorants, rooms sprays, soaps and
perfumes.
